Longgang Academy was the first academy founded by Wang Yangming after he attained enlightenment in Longchang, and it was also the first academy he founded in his life. Li Chongjun (1876), the magistrate of Xiuwen County during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, commented: The academy in Qianzhong started from Longgang; the academy in Longgang started from Mr. Wang Yangming. Since the establishment of Longgang Academy, Guizhou has undergone a huge transformation from only nine Jinshi scholars recorded before the middle of the Ming Dynasty to two champions, one third place, more than 700 Jinshi scholars, and more than 6,000 Juren scholars. This shows the profound influence of Longgang Academy on Guizhou's cultural and educational undertakings. The academy built today is the fourth generation academy, only one kilometer away from the original site, across the Yangming River.

In the spring of the 15th year of Zhengde, after Mr. Yangming went to Luling, Jiangxi Province to serve as the magistrate, Longgang Academy was gradually abolished. It was not until the 22nd year after Mr. Yang's death, in the 30th year of Jiajing (1551), that Zhao Jin, the then governor of Guizhou and the censor, built the Yangming Temple and inscribed the plaque "Longgang Academy", but it did not perform the duties of the academy. Its greater function was to worship Mr. Yangming. After several reconstructions and repairs during the Jiaqing and Daoguang periods, the Wang Wencheng Temple in the ancient ruins area was formed today.

In order to expand and extend the teaching function of the Longgang Academy Ancient Ruins Area, Longgang Academy was newly built in early 2018, covering a total area of ​​270 mu, of which the building area is about 60 mu. The layout of the academy chose the courtyard form in terms of plane form, and it was developed around the core waterscape "Xingyuan" with a five-entry courtyard central axis. The entire academy is divided into four courtyards according to the four teachings of "The Analects": literature, loyalty, faith, and behavior. At the same time, each park has a different functional positioning according to the functions required by ancient academies.

The southernmost end of the academy is the "Oneness of Benevolence" square, which is taken from Mr. Yangming's philosophical thought of "All Things in Oneness of Benevolence". In the center of the square is a brass-cast seal-script character "Ren", which embodies the core concept of Confucianism. (The character "Ren" is surrounded by a 10.31*10.31 frame, which also represents Mr. Yangming's date of birth, October 31, and the edge of the entire borderless pool is presented in a circle, which coincides with the traditional Chinese philosophical concept of "the sky is round and the earth is square".) The eight outer rings are based on the orbits of the eight planets in the solar system (from near to far, they are water, gold, earth, fire, wood, earth, Uranus, and Neptune) and are distributed around the central sun - "Ren", realizing the leadership of "Ren" and embracing all things. This arrangement not only embodies the academic concept of "Ren of All Things", but also reflects Mr. Yangming's name. These things are protecting the Ren in the middle, which means "guarding Ren".

The walls of the academy are inscribed with the characters "Ambition", "Diligent Study", "Correct Mistakes", and "Responsible for Goodness". These are the academic requirements that Mr. Yangming entrusted to his disciples when he founded Longgang Academy. And the words written on it are the calligraphy of Mr. Yangming through the collection of characters.

The four characters "Longgang Academy" on the main gate of the academy are also the calligraphy of Mr. Yangming through the collection of characters. Its craftsmanship is the brick carving of Gansu's intangible cultural technique.

Preface Hall (building area 299.32㎡): In the center of the preface hall is a small landscape piece in the style of a patio courtyard, in the middle is a dragon cypress, the branches of which are shaped like flames, which symbolizes the inheritance of Yangming's philosophy of mind. The two characters "He" and "Yi" on both sides were written by calligrapher Zhu Junshou (member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, executive director of the Guizhou Calligraphers Association, deputy director of the Cursive Script Committee, and vice chairman of the Guiyang Calligraphers Association) using the method of "using characters to bring paintings". There are also two stele forests on both sides, east and west. In the later stage, Mr. Yangming's calligraphy stone carvings will be placed to integrate the beauty of Chinese calligraphy into the academy and maximize the display of Mr. Yangming's cultural treasures.

Now Longgang Academy and China Yangming Culture Park  have developed a national research and practice course for primary and secondary schools. The course has a variety of teaching methods such as one to eight days of on-site teaching, situational teaching, and practical activities. The course location is not limited to Xiuwen. Courses of three days or more have already radiated to surrounding Guiyang, Liuguang, Supu, Zunyi, Qiannan, Qiandongnan, Loushanguan, Meitan and other areas. The activity forms of the academy are also constantly enriched. At present, the academy is also a 4A-level national tourist attraction, a national social science popularization base, a national research and practice education base for primary and secondary school students, a Tsinghua University student social practice base, a national research and study tour instructor training base, a Guizhou Provincial National Defense Education Base, a Guizhou Provincial 100 Urban Complex—Guiyang Xiuwen County Xiuwen Yangming Culture Park Urban Complex, a Guizhou Provincial Patriotism Education Base, a Vice President Unit of the Guizhou Research and Study Travel Association, a Guizhou Provincial Research and Study Travel Society, a Guizhou Provincial Yangming Studies Society, a Humanities and Social Sciences Demonstration Base, a Guizhou Youth League School Practice Education Base, and a Guizhou Model Worker (Worker) Recuperation Base.

Wenyuan includes Pan Bridge, Pan Pond, Boundless Pool and Yangming Hall from near to far. The three Pan Bridges are called "Sanyuan Bridges". The academic thoughts of Mr. Yangming are presented in the form of movable type printing in the Boundless Pool. The largest stone carving inside is "This heart is bright" in Mr. Yangming's last words before his death. On the corridors on both sides are excerpts from Mr. Yangming's "Chuan Xi Lu".

Yangming Hall is an important sacrificial place in the academy, facing north and south. "Yangming Hall" is symmetrical on both sides, with a rigorous layout, a width of 9 rooms, and a double-eaved hip roof. The roof is a thirteen-ridge roof, and the courtyard is wide, providing space for sacrificial activities (total construction area of ​​712.60㎡). While adhering to the traditional architectural style, it also adds the element design of "dougong", and uses a large area of ​​glass curtain wall to replace the traditional brick and tile stone wall, which improves the indoor lighting effect and highlights the transparency of the space. It is not only beautiful, but also perfectly solves the problems of space and lighting. The four arts of a gentleman, such as playing the zither, chess, calligraphy and painting, are carved on the guardrails in front of the four sides, which also reflect Mr. Yangming's personal interests and skills. The three seal characters (small seal characters) of "Yangming Hall" were written by Su Shishu, the chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association (and there are three generations of chairmen of the Calligraphers Association in the academy, Mr. Zhang Hai in the previous term, and Mr. Shen Peng earlier). In Yangming Hall is a bronze statue of Mr. Yangming, designed by Professor Li Sanhan, a famous sculptor and national first-class artist in Hubei. The plaque above the bronze statue, "Famous in the World, True Talent", was written by Emperor Qianlong himself when he went to the south of the Yangtze River, expressing his admiration for Mr. Yangming. (Confucius's "Teacher of All Ages" was proposed by Emperor Qianlong's grandfather, Emperor Kangxi), and the original plaque is now in Mr. Yangming's hometown of Zhejiang. The "Three Immortalities" on the left can be said to be the highest evaluation of Mr. Yangming by later generations, because in terms of Chinese history, Mr. Yangming is the only undisputed three immortals in China (two half-perfect people: Confucius, Wang Yangming, Zeng Guofan); the "Great Enlightenment of Civilization" on the right reveals the great role that Mr. Yangming brought to the rise of Guizhou culture. The paintings on both sides of Yangming Hall are representative figures and brief introductions of the eight Wangmen, namely: Qianzhong Wangmen (Guizhou area), Zhejiang Zhong Wangmen (Ningbo Shaoxing area), Jiangyou Wangmen (Jiangxi area), Chuzhong Wangmen (Hubei, Hunan area), Nanzhong Wangmen (Jiangsu, Anhui area), Beifang Wangmen (Shandong, Henan area), Yuemin Wangmen (Fujian, Guangdong area), Taizhou Wangmen (Taizhou, Jiangsu area). Among them, Qianzhong Wangmen mainly refers to the current Guizhou area. Longchang can be said to be the turning point of Mr. Yangming's life and the origin of Yangming's philosophy of mind. At the same time, it also has four major characteristics - the earliest time, the largest scale, the widest distribution, and local characteristics. Mr. Wang's main representative disciples in Qianzhong Wangmen include Li Wei, Sun Yingao and Ma Tingxi. The three of them are honored as the "Three Saints of Guizhou Neo-Confucianism".

Zhongyuan is the functional area of ​​the academy that mainly carries out research and lectures. It has five lecture halls, one large and four small. Opposite the courtyard is the "Chuanxi Pavilion". The entire architectural form is a combination and extension of "unity" and "oneness". The plaque of "Chuanxi Pavilion" was written by Mr. Zhang Hai, the chairman of the fifth and sixth Chinese Calligraphers Association (born in 1941, his ancestral home is Yanshi County, Henan Province, and the chairman of the fifth and sixth Chinese Calligraphers Association).

In addition, on the basement floor of Longgang Academy, we have also set up studios and meditation rooms, etc., enriching the "quiet" function of the academy.

Chuanxi Pavilion adopts a new Chinese interior style. Its interior is made of solid wood, the space is comfortable, and the atmosphere of lectures is strong. At present, the lecture hall can accommodate 207 people for lectures and other activities at the same time.

There are four small (170 square meters) classrooms around Chuanxixuan: Chunhe, Xiashuang, Qiule, and Dongxuan. Each classroom can accommodate 80 to 100 people. It is used to undertake some small learning and training activities.

It has held various types of courses such as entrance ceremony, traditional recitation, party and government training courses, corporate training courses, and research and study for primary and secondary school students.

Xinyuan, the core building is the "Zunjing Pavilion", inscribed by Teacher Bao Junyi (born in Guiyang in 1955, his ancestral home is Taicang, Jiangsu, and he is currently the vice chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association). It is five rooms wide, with nine ridges on the Xieshan Mountain, majestic and magnificent. It is an important library for Yangming's philosophy of mind and other excellent traditional cultures. (After the completion of the entire academy, it will be the library with the most books involving Yangming's philosophy of mind.) And in the future, after the permission of the lecturer, we will also organize and archive the content of the meetings undertaken in the academy so that more people can understand and learn. Xingyuan is located on the east side of the entire academy and is a relatively independent courtyard. It is also the largest courtyard in the academy, and its positioning is a multi-functional area. It includes: dining area, accommodation area and Hongdao Pavilion. On the left is the accommodation area hot spring hotel, with a construction area of ​​7862 square meters and 150 guest rooms (including presidential suites, luxury business suites and other guest rooms. All have hot springs). On the right is our "Liuxiang Garden" restaurant, which covers an area of ​​2,200 square meters and is divided into two floors. There are two banquet halls on the second floor, plus the remaining 21 private rooms. "Liuxiang Garden" can accommodate nearly 800 people at the same time.

Hongdao Pavilion is the largest single building in the entire Longgang Academy. The eaves on both sides are slowly raised, with beautiful lines, like a soaring roc. "A scholar must be broad-minded and resolute, and the responsibility is heavy and the road is long" is also an important concept of Hongdao Pavilion. The inscription of Hongdao Hall is written by Mr. Shen Peng (born in 1931 in Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province. He is a calligrapher, art critic and poet. He is the chairman of the Fourth Calligraphers Association and the honorary chairman of the Seventh Chinese Calligraphers Association on December 8, 2015.) Hongdao Hall can accommodate up to 1,000 people at the same time for large-scale academic exchange activities or other large-scale activities. The first floor includes a multi-functional hall, equipped with a VIP room, dressing room, tea room, etc. used in the multi-functional hall; the second floor is equipped with a paperless conference room (the LED large screen area is 7.4㎡ and the resolution is 1792*1024. It supports the simultaneous intake of multiple high-definition signals, and is equipped with 26 intelligent conference lifting integrated display terminals, which supports multi-person interaction on the same screen. The audio amplification system adopts an advanced digital system, which is stable and reliable, and the operation is simple. The amplification system ensures the clarity of sound and the intelligibility of language.) A 12-person boardroom meeting room, two lounges, a reception area, etc. The multi-functional hall you see now covers an area of ​​1,312 square meters, including more than 200 square meters of the second-floor stands.

In 2018, we undertook the academic exchange activities of the 6th International Yangming Cultural Festival here. In 2019, we hosted the Xiuwen County Spring Festival Gala; in 2019, we hosted the Great Health Summit Forum; in 2019, we hosted two sessions of Long Yongtu's "Longchang Forum"; in 2019, we held the 510th Anniversary Forum of "Knowledge and Action Unity"; in 2021, we held the National Lifelong Learning Activity Week.

Now, Longgang Academy has been opened to all walks of life, and can host various large-scale academic seminars, forums and other activities, as well as academic seminars, traditional culture and other learning activities for schools, enterprises, party and government agencies and all walks of life.
